A Whiter Smile, A Brighter You

A question I ask almost every new patient I meet is, “How do you feel about your smile?” and 90% of the time the answer is, “Well, I wish they were whiter.”    I love it when I hear that because I know we can help them achieve that goal in a variety of ways.  One of the most fun things about modern dentistry and about our job everyday is there are simple ways to achieve that whiter smile and change the way you perceive yourself and the way others perceive you.  It seems though many of you out there still think, even though you would like them whiter, it is silly to do such a thing “at your age”.  I am here to tell you that is absolutely not the truth.  I have patients of every age working on a brighter smile, so it is time we embrace this idea no matter our age.Zoom Blog

Whitening is not surgery, there is no recovery time, and no needles involved, but the result can take years off of your face.  Here at our office you can spend as little as twenty dollars and as much as five hundred to get your result.  Your smile says so much about you and it is the first thing people notice about you, so why not take a little time and invest in your self?  The whiteners used today are very safe for your teeth and will not harm your enamel, they also are formulated to minimize sensitivity – the most common side effect.  The sensitivity is temporary and we have a few tricks up our sleeves to help you combat it as well if you find it occurring when you whiten.  We proudly use products from the Zoom Whitening family.

In office whitening gives you a great jump start to that brighter smile, and we send you home with custom whitening trays to help continue the process and allow you to maintain great color down the road.  The whitening trays can be a life long aid in whitening and if well cared for last for years (mine are currently 15 years old!) with the only future investment being the whitening gel to fill the trays if you are needing a touch up.  Today’s whiteners only need to be worn for 5 to 30 minutes a day, not hours or overnight as in the past making it far more doable for most of us.  The whitening pens are great for on the go or if you would like to sleep with whitener but do not like the hassle of a tray in your mouth over night.

As the saying goes, “Your never fully dressed without a smile”, so take a moment and peak at yourself in the mirror and figure out if that smile of yours could use a little brightening.  It is a small treatment that makes a big impact.

We here at Cornerstone Dental were eager for May to arrive and bring a great change to our practice – no longer would we take boring ‘ole xrays on patients, we would take a full three dimensional scan!  So the staff was eager to see it and understand what it would mean for them and our patients and the doctors were eager to bring the latest and greatest in digital technology to the practice.  At training day everyone was in awe.  We were only the second office in the region to have this unit, the Galileos Comfort Plus, and it was going to open up our world.  Together we learned the scan unit actually takes 500 individual slices on every patient and the software layers them together, that is a big change from our classic panoramic that took 1 flat picture of the patient.  What does this mean for us?  It means a tremendous increase in data on every patient – we can analyze the entire mouth from three directions – top to bottom, front to back, and left to right.  What will this tell us?  It will help us diagnose more fully, see more in depth, discover infection well before it would show up on a classic panoramic, map landmarks and nerves to aid in planning for dental implants and detect abnormalities we otherwise would not be able to see.  In one phrase: It will open up our field of view.  Next time you’re in ask one of the staff about it and you will see the amazement in their eyes.  We have had such fun this past month learning the ropes of this new technology and we cannot wait to share its unbelievable capability with you.
